What you are entitled to after an accident
If the accident was not your fault, or only partly your fault, you are entitled to compensation for the damage to your vehicle, physical and psychological injuries, medical expenses and lost working days. The claim must be sent to the insurance company by registered letter or certified email (PEC); the company must make an offer within 30 days if the joint accident report (CAI) is signed by both drivers, within 60 days for damage to property only and within 90 days if there are injuries. Under Italian law the right expires 2 years after the accident, so it is best to act straight away.

The first steps after the accident
- Make sure everyone is safe and call 112 if anyone is injured.
- Fill in the CAI with the other driver, also from your phone with our online joint accident report (in Italian), and take photos of the vehicles, the road and the documents.
- Write down the names and phone numbers of any witnesses, who can write and sign their version with the online written statement (in Italian).
- Go to the emergency room within a few hours, even if the pain seems mild.
- Do not sign offers or receipts before talking to us.
